What is cohousing?
Cohousing is a way of providing homes that is well established internationally and is now increasing in popularity across the UK. It is an intentional way of creating a community composed of private dwellings, communal space and many shared resources. It is a way of living with a group of like minded people while still maintaining your privacy. It is the ideal pattern for sustainable living, which promotes social interaction and mutual support.
Cohousing communities are created from the bottom up rather than from the top down – they are created and run by their residents. They often consist of a group of people with similar values and lifestyles who get to know each other first, decide they want to form a community and then work out all the details.
If you like to find out more about cohousing we recommend that the UK Cohousing group website is a good place to start.
